Historic Properties, featuring historic structures in the Sixteen Squares, 2009 Town of Blacksburg calendars are now available at various locations in Blacksburg.
The original Town of Blacksburg was laid out in a grid, on land that was donated by William Black, for which the Town is named. Five streets running northeast to southwest cross five other streets running northwest to southeast. Black’s plan created the “Sixteen Squares” that we refer to today. The 2009 calendar features the 12 months, with each month representing a particular block. For example, January 2009 is Block One and it features pictures of the Spencer Johnson House, Crow-Dawson House, Andy Camper House and St. Paul AME Church. Other pictures throughout the calendar include the likes of Christ Episcopal Church, Price House, Masonic Lodge, U.S. Post Office (Downtown), Blacksburg United Methodist Church, 201 Wharton Street, 109 and 111 North Main Street, Bennett-Pugh House, Old Presbyterian Church, First Church of God, Strouble’s Creek and Alexander Black House are just a few of the many historic structures featured in the 2009 calendar. You may pick up your free copy at the Cashier's Desk in the Blacksburg Municipal Building (300 South Main Street), or at the Blacksburg Recreation Center or the Aquatic Center (Patrick Henry Drive).
