As we all sit around the table today to celebrate Thanksgiving, there are many individuals and families who will have no meal to partake in, much less a place to gather and enjoy the Holidays. Several area churches and other organizations will be providing meals to the community on Thanksgiving Day.
Blacksburg St. Michael Lutheran Church at 2308 Merrimac Road in Blacksburg will be holding its annual free Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, Nov. 27, starting at 1 p.m. The public is invited to come and share in food and fellowship. If you need transportation or for more information, call the church at 951-8951. In addition, Ceritano’s at 428 N. Main Street in Blacksburg will be offering a free Thanksgiving buffet for anyone that needs a meal from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Fairlawn The Fairlawn Presbyterian Church, located on Route 114 in Fairlawn, will be offering a Thanksgiving Day Community Dinner from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Radford The Grove United Methodist Church, which is located at 1020 Tyler Avenue in Radford, will hold its fifth annual free Thanksgiving meal for the community from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 27. The meal will consist of turkey and dressing, sweet potatoes, green beans and a variety of homemade desserts. The church is recommending reservations, but they are not required. To make reservations or to arrange for free transportation or to even have a meal delivered to your house, call the church office at 639-2807. “Thanksgiving is a time for families, friends and communities to give thanks to God for all our wonderful blessings. Our hope and prayer is this meal will give us an opportunity to come together as a community to do just that,” said Rev. Karen Lane. Photo by David Grimes
