Hometown Holiday . . . an American tradition that will be greatly enhanced this year, thanks to the Montgomery Museum venues.
The 2008 Hometown Holiday events at the Montgomery Museum & Lewis Miller Regional Art Center, 300 S. Pepper St., Christiansburg, begin on Nov. 29. Museum members’ art-works will be displayed, as an array of activities for varying age-groups will be enjoyed by all. The ‘Hanging of the Greens,’ from the Victorian era theme, will honor the Pepper family, the original residents of the museum. Visitors are invited to celebrate the Holidays, by bringing fresh greens, pine cones and creative works that will enhance the group-activity efforts to decorate the museum for the 'Hanging of the Greens' event. The Nov. 29, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. art-filled day will include refreshments for all. No registration is required. The Montgomery County Museum will host several upcoming events that will offer delicacies to please the most discriminating palates, as well as visionary delights. The First Annual Children’s Gingerbread Workshops will be held at the S. Pepper St. Museum, on Dec. 6, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please register by Dec. 2, by calling the Museum at (540) 382-5644. Children, ages four to nine, will decorate gingerbread cookies and hear the story of the Gingerbread Baby. Other age-groups may enter the Gingerbread competition, by bringing their creations to the Museum, during weekday hours. Prizes will be awarded on Dec. 13. The Annual Gingerbread House competition includes edible creations that will be judged by local dignitaries, including Christiansburg Mayor Richard Ballengee. Entries should be delivered to the museum from Dec. 2 through the 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Holiday Open House, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Dec. 13, will afford visitors an opportunity to tour the freshly decorated museum, enjoy the judging of gingerbread houses, and partake in special, traditional American Holiday experiences. Ms. Donna Capozzi-Speaks said that, “we are particularly looking forward to the First Annual Children’s Gingerbread Workshop; it’s going to be fun to see the children’s cookie decorating techniques, as we anticipate their creativity and exuberance. We will provide everything they need, we just need them to come and have fun!” Contact the Montgomery Museum (540-382-5644), or view the online information and entry forms, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , www.montgomerymuseum.org.
