Christiansburg Middle School Fire Intentionally Set Print E-mail
David Grimes

A fire was intentionally set in an upstairs conference room at Christiansburg Middle School late Monday morning. An arrest is expected within the next couple of days, according to law enforcement officials.

Lt. Brian Wright of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office told EverythingNRV.com that an arrest should be made within the next couple of days, as they complete their investigation into the fire that was intentionally set in an upstairs conference room around 11 a.m. Monday morning.

According to Dr. Tiffany Anderson, Superintendent of Montgomery County Schools, a division-wide notice went to the parents on the emergency listerserv after being notified of the incident, and central administration went to CMS immediately.

In a letter sent home to the parents of the Christiansburg Middle School students, school principal Ryan P. Hitchman stated:  “Late this morning, a box containing board games was found burning in one of our upstairs conference rooms. Two of our staff members discharged a fire extinguisher onto the burning debris. Students were moved from the affected area to the auditorium. The fire department and Montgomery County Police were notified immediately. A call was also placed to the Central Office Administration. The fire department arrived, investigated and determined that the debris did not pose a hazard. The police remained on the scene to gather evidence and work with the CMS administrative team.

No students or staff members were ever in eminent danger. The area was cleaned and the school day continued as normal.”
