Luna Innovations Incorporated, a company focusing on sensing & instrumentation and nanotechnology, was acknowledged by the Virginia Chamber of Commerce with a Torchbearer Award for the Western Region at a gala held in Richmond, Va., on Oct. 29. The awards, presented by Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling along with Bernie Niemeier, Publisher of Virginia Business magazine, and Mike Daniels, Chairman of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce, honor businesses whose products, services and management practices have boosted Virginia’s progress and success in recent years.
“It is truly a privilege to have been nominated along with the other companies that are making Virginia a wonderful place to do business,” said Kent Murphy, Luna’s Chairman, CEO and founder. “We appreciate the recognition and opportunities we have been given in working with Virginia’s universities, federal labs and industrial partners. We are proud to have created and sustained more than 350 jobs in the Commonwealth geared around engineering and science. Additionally, we are pleased to have funded more than 400 graduate students, assisting them in completing their higher education. We are on track for continued growth and hope to accomplish it here in Virginia." These annual awards identify the companies in the Commonwealth that best illustrate the excellence that has made Virginia the leading state in the nation for business.
