A road rage incident, which started on the nothern end of town and ended in the southern end of Blacksburg Monday night, led to a single-vehicle accident and two drivers being charged with reckless driving. Glenn W. Quesenberry, II., 25, of Christiansburg and Gary D. Jackson, 44, of Blacksburg were both charged with reckless driving, according to Sgt. Nathan O’Dell of the Blacksburg Police Department.
According to the police report, they received a call of a single-vehicle accident at the intersection of South Main Street and Airport Road at approximately 11:35 p.m. The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2006 Chevrolet Colorado pickup, being operated by Quesenberry, veered to the right to avoid colliding with a 2003 Dodge Laramie pickup, which was operated by Jackson. As both vehicles traveled through the intersection of South Main and Airport in the same south bound direction. Quesenberry’s vehicle ran off of the road and into the front yard of 1000 S. Main Street, striking a tree. The vehicle continued traveling through the front yard before striking a second tree and coming to a stop. The accident, which was a result of the two drivers engaging in aggressive driving, started in the north end of Blacksburg. Both drivers were operating their respective vehicles in a manner to keep the other from passing. At some point after the incident began, Mr. Jackson pulled into the parking lot of Taco Bell and Mr. Quesenberry pulled into another parking lot waiting for Jackson’s vehicle to return onto North Main Street. Once Mr. Jackson pulled back onto N. Main Street, Quesenberry pulled out and began following. Quesenberry managed to get past Jackson’s vehicle and then he took some side streets near the downtown area, to avoid Mr. Jackson. Quesenberry drove onto Miller Street and was at the stop sign waiting to turn onto S. Main Street to head south. At that point, Jackson’s vehicle approached the intersection and came to a stop in the roadway, waiting for Quesenberry’s vehicle to turn onto S. Main Street. Quesenberry pulled out in front of Mr. Jackson’s stopped vehicle and continued southbound. Jackson, again, was attempting to pass Quesenberry’s vehicle, but he was maneuvering his vehicle to keep Mr. Jackson from passing. As they approached the intersection with Airport Road, Mr. Jackson crossed the double yellow line and drove into the northbound lane so he could pass Quesenberry’s vehicle and another vehicle, which was traveling in the innermost lane. After passing both vehicles, Mr. Jackson steered his vehicle back into the southbound lanes. Seeing that Mr. Quesenberry’s vehicle had accelerated in an attempt to pass him back, Jackson veered into Quesenberry’s lane to keep him from passing. Mr. Quesenberry veered to the right to avoid a colliding with Mr. Jackson’s vehicle, thus resulting in the accident. Quesenberry, who was wearing a seatbelt, did not suffer any injuries as a result of the accident. Damage to the Quesenberry vehicle was estimated at $10,000 and damages to the trees were estimated at $100. It is alleged Mr. Jackson pulled in front of Mr. Quesenberry, cutting him off, and Mr. Quesenberry responding by sounding his horn that initiated the entire incident, according to the police.
