The final steel truss completing the frame work of the Dedmon Center roof was lifted and placed last week, drawing closer the completion of renovations to the Radford University athletics center.
Before the 20-ton steel beam ascended to the top of the Dedmon Center, President Penelope W. Kyle, RU Director of Athletics Robert Lineburg and each of the head and assistant athletics coaches signed the truss on Thursday. Each truss measures six feet in diameter and stands 14-feet tall. “We were so thrilled Thursday to sign the last truss signifying a major step toward the completion of this project,” Lineburg said. “Our coaches and student-athletes are so excited about returning to a renovated Dedmon Center. This is going to be a fantastic venue for sports and a host of other activities in the coming years.” It is estimated that the renovated sections of the Dedmon Center will reopen in January. Until then, the women's and men's basketball programs and the women's volleyball program will use the gymnasium in Peters Hall for their practices and games. Photo courtesy of Radford University News
