David Grimes

A birthday celebration in Blacksburg turned violent early Wednesday morning after a Maryland woman was assaulted and injured during an altercation.

According to Sgt. Nathan O’Dell of the Blacksburg Police Department, they received a call of a woman that had fallen in the 300 block of Franklin Drive at approximately 1:10 a.m. this morning (Wednesday).

Upon the officers arrival, they found Craig Louis Troisi, 21, of Easton, MD., standing next to 21-year-old Charlotte Belinda Lauren of Columbia, MD., who was sitting in the street, bleeding from the head.

Investigation revealed that the pair had been out celebrating Mr. Troisi’s birthday and when they returned to Mr. Troisi’s apartment, the two got into an altercation and its alleged that he knocked Ms. Lauren to ground, causing a severe head laceration. The suspect then called 911.

The victim was transported to Montgomery Regional Hospital where its was also determined that she had also suffered fractures to the skull. She was then transported to Lewis-Gale Medical Center in Salem for further treatment.

Mr. Troisi was arrested at the scene and charged with assault and battery and public intoxication.  He is being held at the Montgomery County Jailon a $1,500.00 secured bond.

The investigation is continuing and more charges may be pending, according to Sgt. O’Dell.
