Taylor Office Supply Named Radford Business Of The Month Print E-mail
Becky Haupt

(Radford, Virginia) Grab a pen and take a quick note of Main Street Radford's Business of the month for September 2008: Taylor Office Supply. In business for over 66 years, this 4th generation family owned and operated business has been a Radford staple.

Originally started in Christiansburg by current owner Jim Taylor's Grandfather - ----, it has been housed in its current location since the late seventies in what was once a former launder mat.  Now Taylor calling the corner of Third and Grove Avenue home, one simply couldn't miss the two story, bright blue brick building that is Taylor Office Supply.

Step inside and the welcoming feeling and friendly atmosphere are what will have you coming back, what with some of the nicest employees like Nancy Pridgen and Steve Haines, working there. That’s not even mentioning loyalty and longevity with Kerry Dowling there for 30 years.  “We have such a wonderful staff here at Taylor Office Supply,” says owner Jim Taylor of his 11 full time employees, “combined together it equals about 217 years worth of experience in this business.”

Originally just office supplies, Taylor office supply has diversified with the changing times to offer a wide selection of art supplies from framed canvasses, crayola markers to original art from local artists.  Taylor Office supply also has a strong selection of office furniture whether your taste runs from traditional to modular/contemporary to the service of these pieces as well.

There are computers supplies too, such as USB drives, discs, DVDs/CD roms to ink cartridges for those hard to replace printers. Not in stock? Then Taylor Office can order it for you and have it the next day, be it in Bedford/Lynchburg or down to Wytheville or in Giles County.  Orders are accepted over the phone – 639-6969 or by fax 639-0685. With a motto of “You can always count on us”, try Taylor and you’ll find out that their slogan is true.

Established by Main Street Radford in August 2004 as a way to recognize Main Street business owners for their accomplishments and to also promote economic development in the City, Main Street Radford uses this program as a way of honoring our local businesses. The Main Street Radford board of directors uses the following criteria to nominate and vote on a business of a month.

In addition to being a current member of Main Street Radford, the following criteria are used to determine eligible Business of the Month Candidates:

1 Radford business that has recently opened or are under new ownership or management
2 Radford business member that have moved to a new or second location
3 Radford business member that have completed recent property renovation
4 Radford business member that offer new or expanded services/products
5 Radford business member that is celebrating anniversary or milestones
6 Business members that have demonstrated significant growth or outstanding customer service

Becky Haupt, Main Street Radford’s Director, believes that “the business of the month” program serves as another form of advertising for our Main Street merchants.

We wouldn’t have such a unique and vibrant downtown if not for them. Haupt strongly encourages Radford citizens to come out and support all Radford businesses. For more information about the “Business of the Month” program, contact the MSR office at 731-3656.
