Ron 'I Have a Heart' Walton
Is it just me or . . .

. . . do you get a little nervous when the surgeon leans over you and says, "Now, let's see if you really have a heart.”

Do you wonder why some Christiansburg business people can't seem to get over their Chamber of Commerce merging with Blacksburg some years after the fact? The Montgomery County Chamber has performed better than anyone's expectations and they - and their leadership - are recognized throughout the southeast for the good job they do. Hey . . . Christiansburg folks . . . get over it.

Does it seem like Sean Hannity is screaming a bit more these days on his TV show? His and Alan's on-air arguments are becoming legendary and have to be a producer's and network's nightmare. Hannity only has himself to blame with regard to his distaste of Obama being the Democratic nominee. Hannity spent almost two years blasting Hillary Clinton assuming she would be the nominee, never seeing Obama coming.

Do you get a little irritated to be paying $4 + at the gas pump, then seeing expensive network television ads for companies like Marathon, Shell, BP and Chevron telling us how they are working to help us all. I'd prefer to pay less at the pump and have them dump their self-serving commercials. Shell is giving away $2900 of gasoline a day . . . the lottery is a better bet.

Is it just a coincidence that the board at the Blacksburg Partnership seems a little ‘top-heavy’ with real estate people and developers? Probably not.

Are you a little concerned about Governor Kaine's assertion that there was no reason to panic because the distributors had plenty of fuel for Virginia, followed by the fact that many stations did, in fact, run out of gas for several days? Almost a week later, the Governor started investigating the gas shortages and possible price gouging. I like Kaine a great deal - he's a smart man. But he got some bad advice with the gasoline issue.

Should the local Democrats start getting Tommy Whitt ready to run against Dave Nutter? Whitt knows his way around the firehouses and rescue squads, and could put a dent into Nutter's base of voters.

Are you a little irritated that your tax dollars are going to bail out companies like AIG that were severely mismanaged and had CEO's that made millions of dollars? AIG wrote a great deal of sub-standard insurance. Did you have bad credit, lots of speeding tickets or were you just downright a bad risk? Then, AIG was your place. Now we are bailing them out because they wrote some risky policies?

Do you think that someone is being sheltered and an incident being covered up with the ‘porno’ incident in Floyd. This one will be hard to ‘sweep under the rug.’

Does Governor Palin's husband have a ‘deer in the headlights’ look?

Is it just a coincidence that Radford University continues to have substantial turnover in key administration positions?

Do you have a "who cares" attitude about Bush's proposed $700 Billion bail out of the economy? Don't you wonder how much of that money will be used to pay off CEO's on their exit? It is just more of the rich getting richer and the rest paying the bill. Obama and McCain seem to agree on some of the points of the proposed bailout - one of which is having an oversight of how the businesses would be managed and run. Bush and his cronies don't want oversight - they want to continue handing control of these businesses to the same people that put us in this position. $700 Billion is not enough . . . watch and see.

Is it simply the ‘chickens coming home,’ or, was it justice that Cumulus Broadcasting's WFNR-AM got caught broadcasting a mistake filled with profanity? Over the past few years it seems like each time someone left there to work for another station - even in Roanoke - you heard this ‘we're going to sue’ because everyone is held to a non-compete agreement. Or when someone leaves with an issue, then it's ‘they'll never work in this business again; Cumulus is a big company and you don't want them mad at you’ – these things have been said by management personnel. I'm more than positive that this current issue at the station was a mistake - it is simply not something Rick Watson would do on purpose - and no punishment is warranted. Porno at Floyd and profanity on the local radio stations . . ..what's next?

Has your child asked you ‘what is an erection’ after they heard it in the Cialis commercial run during a time period where television stations are supposed to be ‘family friendly?’

1. Christiansburg and MOCO Chamber: I think the time-frames, RE: Tech-Tech Tailgate, and other such events, will become 'workable' for all. Everyone needs to unite, as I'm sure they will. Councilman Showalter's 'prompt' may inspire affiliated persons.
2: AIG: insurer of many 'high risk' endeavors: inevitable that the 'risks' may become riske'..NO govt. bailout preferred. Where were the 'experts' (the ones that received $M bonuses?..stockholders?)..sad; not usual USA capitalism. I'm a capitalisitc, free-enterprise (free to win or lose) economic system fan!

I'm glad too

I am also happy that Councilman Showalter asked questions after my tourism presentation. It shows he cares about Christiansburg's best interests. Of course I did talk with Kevin Stoner about the Tech-Tech Tailgate and we did supply some of the items he needed to conduct it, but the time frame from start to completion was very short once we knew it was approved by the Town.

I love the fact that Henry Showalter asked Shane Adams at the last Christiansburg Town Council meeting why he had not jumped at the chance to support the Tech Tech Tailgate. I am sure several members of the council and audience thought he was silly (you could tell from the looks on their faces), but he was trying to prove a point. Although Adams and Kevin Stoner clearly pointed out there really was no time, Showalter still brought up excellent questions and prodded for more support for his town.

I am unbiased as to whether I think the Chamber is as involved with Christiansburg as it could be. I do respect everything it does and I think it is amazing it has had such a high recognition. I am a resident of Montgomery County and am proud to say that the Chamber serves our area well ... if some do not believe it serves the Christiansburg area quite as well, then they have just as much right to voice that as anyone else. In future days, maybe we will see more involvement. Being proactive doesn't hurt.

Funny...

...I thought the Chamber just held the Wilderness Trail Festival in DOWNTOWN Christiansburg? Isn't that the largest festival held in Christiansburg? I guess that doesn't qualify as S*** to you? What is it exactly that you think the Chamber should be doing for Christiansburg that it isn't already doing?

Get over it Walton. The Chamber hasn't done S*** for Christiansburg. If it had not been for you and the other band of cronies, who all got tossed off the board of directors, then we'd still have 2 functioning chambers doing a good job for their respective communities. The minute you said that the chamber "needed to be run like a business" all of the luster went away.
