Jared Fogle, known for his conviction-filled Subway commercials, made a stop Friday afternoon to speak to the student body at Margaret Beeks Elementary School in Blacksburg about eating right and exercising.
Jared explained to the crowd, as he held up the size 60 waist pants he once wore, as to what contributed to his weight gain as a teenager. “Too much TV, too much video games, to much Internet and too much junk food all contributed to my obesity," Jared said. “When I was like 18-19-20-years old, I couldn’t fit into a seat at the movies and I couldn’t even fit into the backseat of a car.” He explained that in his third year of college, he lived next door to a Subway and that he decided he needed to do something about his weight. “I ate two subs a day and I lost 94 pounds in the first three months,” said Jared. “I ended up losing 245 in one year.” Jared went on to tell the students that they needed to make good health decisions and get the proper amount of exercise. He also explained to the student body about a Subway promotion called “Subway Fresh Fit,” in which students submit posters and video for awards. According to the Subway spokesman, the Grand Prize is a $1,000 fitness grant to the school, along with dinner for four at Subway for an entire year.
