Blacksburg Man Drowns In The New River Print E-mail
David Grimes

A 67-year-old Blacksburg man drowned Saturday in the New River near the Pepper’s Ferry Bridge in Pulaski County.

According to a spokesman with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries, Clayton Luther Bartlett drowned near the bridge. Rescue crews searched the New River till dark on Saturday and then resumed their efforts on Sunday, when his body was located.

Bartlett was not wearing a life jacket at the time and game officials say the drowning was an accident.

Complete details of the incident are not available at this time.
