STAMP Out Bullying in our Schools Print E-mail
Leigh Anne Correll
Jay Banks, whose STAMP Out Bullying program was featured on the Hallmark Channel in January of this year, will speak to Montgomery County elementary students as part of bullying prevention programs being implemented in the district’s schools.

According to the Jay Banks website (www.jaybanks.com), STAMP is not only a school assembly, but an in-service presentation to help schools set up a comprehensive, school-wide prevention intervention program. This research-based strategy can help you reduce and prevent bullying with an easily remembered 5-point acronym THAT WORKS.

STAMP stands for:

S - Stay away from bullies
T - Tell someone
A - Avoid bad situations
M - Make friends
P - Project confidence

Red bracelets with the words S.T.A.M.P. OUT BULLYING on them can be purchased from the website for children to wear. Their daily presence on the wrists of children not only reminds the child of the motto, but allows others to see who they may come to for help during a time they are being bullied.

T-shirts and other items can also be purchased at the website.

There have been several successful bullying-prevention programs throughout the Montgomery County Public School system, including one at Auburn High School and Falling Branch Elementary School.

Mr. Banks has performed across the nation at elementary and secondary schools promoting character education, anti-bullying, drug awareness, leadership, and a variety of other topics relevant to students and families. He will be visiting Montgomery County this week and his schedule is as follows:

STOP BULLYING!
written by Melissa Devore, September 01, 2008
I love what you are doing with the young children letting them know how to deal with bullying. Larry Middleton had talked with you through email and was wanting me to get in contact with you about going around to the schools with you and giving a little insight on what I know about bullying or what I have been through myself. If you could get back with me my email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
Thank you hope to hear from you soon.

Bullying
written by 'Bully', September 01, 2008
Thanks for the important info. Most everyone might remember a time of being bullied, humiliated, and placed in danger. Bullying can be very subtle, from certain 'looks' to sign-language. Text-messaging facilitates 'ganging up' timelines and locations. Most bullying is on school property, and I'm glad that MCPS is continuing their pro-active stance against bullying. Now, if we could just adults to stop bullying, from the cashier that gets yelled at, to folks in meetings that 'roll eyes' if they disagree with others' comments or wishes. Life is too short for 'the games (some)people play'.
