Christiansburg Cruisin' For Last Time this Season Print E-mail
Larry Middleton
Thousands of folks enjoyed Christiansburg's final Cruisin' event of 2008 this past Saturday.  Bands filled the airwaves with Beach Music and other favorite styles.

Lots of "Wow"'s and "Look at that!"'s were audible, as all age groups of fans tried to choose their favorite cars, performers and vendor displays.

The 'Herbie' Volkswagen was a kids' favorite, but the 'muscle cars' from the 60's and 70's gained the most attention. Some

beautiful 40's models and 'street rods' added to the selection.

Several folks commented that their favorite part of the entire day was seeing acquaintances that they had not spoken with in a long time. It was a sort of homecoming for many local residents.

Kudos to Tacy Newell. She was a driving force for Cruisin' Christiansburg and continues to be a driving force to revitalize downtown Christiansburg. The town owes her a debt of gratitude.

I think it is important to point out here that the Town really didn't do all the work to make these Cruisin' Christiansburg events happen. There was several dedicated businesses and volunteers that contributed a lot to make them happen. Tacy Newell at the Coffee Depot was a big organizer on this event and should get some attention here.

Thanks to the Town for holding the event, and all the participants. Although I have attended them all, this one was the most interesting. So many folks seeing 'ole friends that they had not seen in a while. I also saw a lot of local personalities that are certainly part of the Town's legacy, from mechanics to politicians.
