4-H Fair in Riner Print E-mail
Larry Middleton
Sinkland farms, Riner, hosted the annual Montgomery County 4-H Fair, on Saturday.

Competitions included colorful garden arrangements, crafts displays and equine events. Good food, including free watermelon, made the blue-skied day very enjoyable.  About 200 folks attended, visiting merchant booths, buying chances to win a new truck from FFA  (Future Farmers of America) of Christiansburg H.S., in association with Shelor Motor Mile, and cheering the equine competitors.  Colorful ribbons were placed on the best farm products and displays.

Children as young as five years old 'ran' the gauntlet of poles and barrels, led by older volunteers that jogged about the

routes of the equine area.

Farm animals were displayed, with a particular Palemino draft-horse seeming to become a favorite, as he stationed himself near a fence. He reveled in the attention and petting sessions. Rabbits were taken for wagon-rides, as children pedaled their tractors through the lanes.

Sinkland Farms' corn crop, soon to become the corn-maze for their annual Pumpkin Festival, was adorned by huge sunflowers abounding the periphery. Beautiful sites and folks having great fun; nothing is finer, than to be in Riner!

It was a great day! The Sink family coordinated everything so well, as usual. It was nice to see so many families bringing their little ones to enjoy the activities. Thanks, 4-H, and Sinkland Farms!
