First-degree murder charges against Richard Forest Mabry, a Pulaski County man, who stabbed to death a Radford woman in January have been certified to the grand jury following a hearing in Pulaski County District Court.
Mabry, of Dublin, is to have allegedly stabbed Dawn Lee Wright of Radford in late January on Alum Spring Mountain Road According to court documents, the alleged offense took place on January 21, 2008. However, the Pulaski County Sheriff’s office did not find out about the murder until a passing motorist spotted a body laying in a ravine from the road on January 23 and called police. According to sheriff investigators, Wright’s body was found in a ravine about 15 yards off of Alum Spring Mountain Road. Wright had been stabbed five times, according to a report from the medical examiner. Two to the chest, two to the back and one to the thigh; she also had a considerable loss of blood. The medical examiner’s report indicated that Wright died from the stab wounds to the lungs and the large amount of blood loss. Mabry, who is being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail, has an assault and battery case also pending in Pulaski County General District Court on July 28, 2009. In that case, it’s alleged that Mabry assaulted a Jason O’Neal on October 7, 2007.
