Montgomery County Heritage Day was intriguing. Over 200 folks attended the event at the Montgomery Museum & Lewis Miller Regional Art Center on Pepper St. in Christiansburg.
Mayor of Christiansburg, Richard 'Dick' Ballengee, was joined by several other local officials that attended the well-organized day. However, Mayor Ballengee was targeted by Steve Huppert, an author and Will Rodgers portrayer who performed on Heritage Day. Mayor Ballengee happily accepted the jovial prodding by Huppert during his presentation. There were singers, story tellers, musical performances, crafts demonstrations . . . much to enjoy. Museum tours were popular, but most guests chose to stay outdoors, enjoying the breezy, sunny day. The gazebo stage performances and various displays were favorites. From ante-bellum games and clothing, to coal-miners' displays, all age-groups were entertained. Carriage rides were popular, as a chestnut mare gently led groups around the cordoned area. Donna Speaks Capozzi, Museum Director, stayed busy at the registration table, where several new Montgomery County Museum supporters filed their papers to become friends and supporters of the Museum. "I'm pleased that so many are enjoying this special day," Capozzi said. Photos by Larry Middleton
