The YMCA at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg is sponsoring their annual Ytoss? sale. At the end of the spring semester, when Virginia Tech students are moving out, they often toss many items that would otherwise not go into the garbage. To prevent this from happening, the YMCA at Virginia Tech sets up bins throughout campus to collect these items for recycling. Students may also bring them to the YMCA at 1000 North Main St.
When students begin moving back in for the fall semester, the YMCA has a huge sale of the items that were donated last year. Community members and students alike are invited to take advantage of the discounted, lightly-used merchandise. Included in the Ytoss? sale are the following: - Mini refrigerators The sale will take place on Aug. 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. “We are still seeking volunteers for the event,” said Sandy Wirt, Student Programs Director for the YMCA at Virginia Tech. “We need volunteers to assist with set-up Aug. 18-20, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and volunteers to assist with the sale on Aug. 21 and 22, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Any volunteer that provides four hours or more of service to the set-up or the actual sale will have a one hour opportunity to 'pre-shop' on all items except refrigerators, TVs, microwaves – the big items that everybody seems to want. All volunteering will take place at the Y Center located at 1000 North Main Street in Blacksburg. No heavy lifting is necessary, but there are definitely opportunities for those with strong backs!” To view the collection process that took place in May by the YMCA at Virginia Tech, check out their YouTube video by clicking here.
