Wal-mart of Christiansburg, radio station Q99 and 'The Q-Bear' teamed up for a successful 'Pack the Bus' event on Thursday.
The annual effort assists students within school districts of Southwest Virginia with essential classroom supplies. Dick Daniels, Q99 management, said, "We hope our five days of efforts within 23 districts will provide upwards of $50,000.00 in cash and goods donations." Q99 and Walmart are joined by Pepsi, Suntrust Bank, AT&T, and Elizabeth Arden, as sponsors. Montgomery County and Floyd County each had buses available for packing, with recent graduates assisting school personnel. Russell Altizer, longtime award-winning school-bus driver for Montgomery Co., said that he was enjoying the event. “Especially when kids give some of the supplies that they just bought to the drive," Altizer said. Iain and Cole Abbot and their mother, Heather, joined with the Mom's Club of Blacksburg to give donations. Bekka and Alex Cnost and mother Cheryl also donated. The smiling kids brought a sense of joy to the adults, as they all put Q99 Bear stickers on their shirts. Walmart donated a special $1000 check to the Montgomery County Public School system, as Walmart management, school personnel and volunteers joined for a group photo. As the lunch crowd grew, so did the amount of goods donated. The Q-Bear gave several hugs during the sunny day. The combined community effort was very inspiring.

Ys' know, name-calling should not be posted. Why is this allowed? Q-99 was never designated as being in ANY area; I think the photo with the bear oufit within it might denote the presence of a mascot. Yes, it was a bear! Rock Albert's (Prince in a can?) world, if the alias has one. I would like to file a formal complaint; slander. Post this!

'Bearly' stunning! Q-Bear IS listed correctly; "The Q-Bear gave several hugs"...yes, Q99 IS located in Roanoke; REGIONAL following, via broadcast power, and/or fans. Q99 is fondly referred to as "the bear" by many. Wow. It was a great event!
