Riner Heritage Day, sponsored by the Riner Ruritans, will be held on Sept. 6. The parade along downtown Riner, Rt. 8, will begin at 10 a.m. with festivities continuing until 3 p.m. at Auburn High School. The annual event gains fans each year, and this year promises to be the best.
Activities for all ages, including live music, sack-races, eating contests, egg and spoon contests, and other 'old-timey' entertainment will be offered. Kettle-corn, tractors, pony rides, and more, will be part of the day. Antique vehicles and early-American tools will be displayed, with hands-on instruction offered. The Riner Museum will have special Heritage Day displays. From old photos to live demonstrations of early American arts and crafts, folks can relax and enjoy American heritage. A civil-war encampment exhibition will allow visitors to see what authentic outfits and tools of survival were like. The cannery will be in operation, so that folks can experience the art of food preservation methods. You may make reservations for canning your own foods. The Riner Fire Department and the Riner Rescue Squad will have open-houses, offering tours and special events, including health screenings. The Auburn Middle School FBLA will assist with events, and offer photo and video services. Parade entries may be added by calling Joe Pack, 540-382-2028. Mr. Pack will direct other inquires, as requested.
