The former band director at Narrows High School is behind bars after being arrested Tuesday on 18 sex-related charges involving one of his students.
John Stafford Maddy, 34, has been charged with 13 felonies and five misdemeanor charges ranging from crimes against nature, sodomy, to taking indecent liberties with a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. According to the Giles County Sheriff’s Office, they received word about the alleged affair on August 1. Investigators interviewed Maddy, who admitted that the sexual relationship started in February with the then 16-year-old girl and it ended earlier this month with the student, who has since turned 17-years-old. School officials said that Maddy resigned from his position on August 1. Maddy is currently being held at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond. He is scheduled for a bond hearing later this week.
