Two people spoke out against the proposed itermodal rail facility during Monday night’s Montgomery County Board of Supervisors meeting.
Both citizens asked the BOS to support an ordinance, which opposes the site being located in the Elliston area of Montgomery County. Several citizens in the eastern end of Montgomery County had a legal team to write an ordinance covering the objection to the location. This ordinance was submitted to the BOS several months ago. Three citizens also spoke about their concerns with the Riner Mobile Home Park in Riner. They were concern about sewer issues, drugs and prostitution going on within the mobile home park. In other business, the BOS approved a Special Use Permit for Dale Alderman to construct a Contractor’s Storage Yard at 2980 Pilot Road. The BOS also approved a Special Use Permit for a 100-foot cell tower to be erected on Riner Road (Rt. 8) in the vicinity of 3148 Riner Road. The Board also approved a Literace Loan Application for the purpose of borrowing $7,500,000 from the Literary Fund for the nee Elliston-Lafayette and Shawsville Elementary School; they also approved a resolution declaring the Board’s intent to reimburse themselves from proceeds of one or more tax-exempt financing. An update from VDOT on road issues/concerns in Montgomery County was presented. In addition, Jack Murphy of Thompson & Litton gave an update on the Courthouse Project. The BOS also held a close session to discuss the Prices Fork Elementary School site.
