An ongoing investigation by the Virginia State Police has led to the arrest of a Pulaski sex offender for violating the requirements of the Pulaski Sexual Offender Apprehended.
Warren Andrew Gentry, 35, of 302 North Washington Avenue, Apartment 4, in Pulaski has been charged with two counts of failing to register as a violent sex offender and two counts of knowingly providing false information to the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. According to First Sgt. Mike Honaker of the Dublin State Police office, the charges are the result of an investigation by Trooper Derek M. Reece in which the state police came into possession of a laptop computer in which Gentry had previously used. The Virginia State Police examined the computer that Gentry previously possessed through a lease agreement. In this particular case, Gentry was not living where he previously reported he was living and he was not working where he previously reported he was working. The investigation revealed that Gentry last reported that his residence was located at 1011 Lovely Mountain Drive in Radford, when that was not his latest address. “Of particular concern in this case, Gentry was living in a residential area around numerous people that were unaware of his identity or his presence,” said Sgt. Honaker. According to the Virginia Sex Offender database, Gentry was first required to register after being convicted of aggravated sexual battery in Montgomery County Circuit Court in September of 2001. Gentry last registered on July 23, 2008. Gentry was required to register after being convicted on August 8, 2001. The offense took place on Nov. 1 2000 and he was arrested on March 2, 2001. Under Virginia law, offenders are required to re-register when they have a change of address or change in employment. Sgt. Honaker added, “We will continue to closely monitor violent sex offenders in our community to ensure they are in strict compliance with their registry requirements and if they are not it is only a matter of time before we will find out they are deviating from the law.” Honaker also stated that Trooper Reece is conducting further investigation in relation to two computers Gentry possessed. The Virginia State Police ask that anyone with information or questions about the Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry, please contact the Dublin State Police Office at (540) 643-2560 or 1-800-542-8716.
