Hundreds stepped in to Blacksburg's Steppin' Out, early on Friday morning. Main and Jackson Streets, College Ave., and Draper Rd. are cordoned for the event.
The annual event runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; visitors were ready for the 10 a.m. official start. Three stages were still being set-up, but most of the 150 vendors were ready for the opening that is currently well attended. Within a couple of hours, hundreds were buying gems, having their faces painted, getting massages, and enjoying the ambiance of the 25th Anniversary of Steppin' Out. Several non-profit organizations and political activists have displays and free materials. One group has a dunking booth, where one can get a chance to dunk the volunteer. The spirited volunteers contributed to the fun-level of the happy crowd. Blacksburg Mayor Ron Rordam was entwined within the festivities, and said that he was very happy about the layout of Steppin' Out, which was facilitating a larger than usual early turn-out. "This traditional event is great fun, and it's a great way to showcase downtown Blacksburg," Rordam said. Photos by Larry Middleton
