This past Saturday, the Blacksburg Farmer's Market area buzzed with activity as local artists presented a free sidewalk show and sale. A breakfast was also offered to guests while they browsed the art creations and the fresh fruits, veggies and herbs offered by Farmer's Market vendors.
“I think a story makes a picture so much more interesting,” said Carol Liguori Wolfe, owner of Woodland Spring Wildflower & Landscape Photography. Each of Wolfe's photos are accompanied by a short, descriptive story, usually depicting where she was and what she was doing when she came upon the scene. Wolfe began photography several years ago when she was trying to photograph and catalog wildflowers. From there, she realized she had a passion for capturing beautiful scenes on film. Many of her works of art are taken in our locality. “I love to do nature photography, especially wildflowers, especially during the spring,” Wolfe said. “But anytime of the year is okay with me ... as long as there aren't too many mosquitos.” Wolfe's pictures hung in her booth for passers-by to admire and hopefully purchase. “If there was one thing I could change, it would be the frames ... they get pretty heavy when you have a lot of them together,” Wolfe said, laughing.Although Wolfe does not have a marketing website, she does keep her friends and fans updated with her blog at http://woodlandspring.blogspot.com. Anyone interested in finding out more about her artwork – or purchasing some of her beautiful photographs – may visit the site to contact Wolfe. There were many forms of art along with alley in Blacksburg. From Wolfe's photography Carol Frye's paintings, custom framed by her husband, Tony. Frye has been an artist for over 40 years and boasts many awards. She has sold over 300 paintings which now hang in personal galleries or offices all over the world. Frye also offers cards. “We have a line of Christmas Cards, Thanksgiving Cards, Birthday, Sympathy and all occasion cards,” Frye said on her website, www.bluefrogartbycarol.com. “The images on the cards are from original paintings. Verses are by the artist. You can also order personalized cards!” The Art Along the Alley event was sponsored by the Downtown Merchants of Blacksburg, Friends of the Farmer's Market and the Blacksburg Regional Art Association.
