Yohannes Abraham, State Director, Adam Gibbs and Justin Baker, Montgomery County coordinators, hosted the grand-opening of the Bararck Obama for President headquarters on Saturday. Nearly 100 attendees were welcomed to the Kent Square location.
Steve Cochran, Montgomery Democratic Party Chairman, said that he had been in the Democratic Party political arena since his Va Tech days that spans for over a decade, and that this was the first time that a Presidential candidate had opened their own headquarters. Cochran vowed that everyone would work together, and that the "neighbor-to-neighbor" part of the campaign was important. He encouraged the crowd to contact at least three voters, and to distribute voter registration cards. "Registration for voting is most important; it must be completed by October 6," said Cochran. Cochran invited everyone to the annual Democratic picnic that will be held next Saturday, 5 PM, at the "Caboose" Park. Adam Gibbs said that volunteers would be solicited from a sign-up sheet that was on-site, Montgomery County Democratic Party lists, and that the Obama campaign looked forward to working with Cochran and the community. Visitors enjoyed refreshments, as many had their photos taken with a life-size image of Barack Obama. Photos by Larry Middleton
