The term 'business after-hours' is often heard in association with the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. But, what exactly is it? And, what does the Chamber do?
A 'business after-hours' event is held after normal business hours have closed. Members of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce – along with their friends – gather together to mingle, network and get to know one another better. This past Thursday they met at LeClairRyan, an entrepreneurial law firm in Blacksburg. The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce exists because of a merger of the Blacksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce. The two agencies joined together in 2003 and established the following mission statement: 'The Mission of the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce is to promote and develop a positive environment for the operation and growth of business in Montgomery County and the New River Valley.' Their prime purpose is to harbor economic development in our area. They are available to new businesses and already established ones alike. For a determined fee, the Chamber offers benefits to their business members that include business advocacy, advertising, referrals, business-to-business discounts, sponsorship opportunities and networking, to list a few. Some of the newest members in our area are Blacksburg Homestay and Slim Transport Solutions. These two businesses joined the Chamber on July 17. All services provided by the Chamber are funded by membership fees and donations, as it is a not-for-profit organization.
