Several Road Projects Axed Across The NRV Print E-mail
David Grimes

Was your road scheduled to be improved in the Virginia 2009-2014 Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program? It may no longer be on the list, as the Virginia Department of Transportation had to delay or completely remove several projects across the New River Valley, due to the lack of funding.

The Commonwealth is required by law to adopt a Six-Year Improvement Program by July 1 of each year based upon the most recent official transportation revenue estimates issued by the Department of Taxation, according to Richard L. Caywood of VDOT.

Caywood went on to explain that the most recent estimates report that tax revenues fell by more than $1.1 billion while maintenance costs for Virginia’s nearly 58,000 miles of state-maintained highway and nearly 13,000 bridges and structures continue to rise.

“We must therefore reduce the number of projects in the program,” said Caywood.

Listed below are the projects that will be delayed or cut for interstate, primary and secondary roads for Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski Counties.
