An investigation into a robbery report by the Blacksburg Police Department has led to an arrest of a Blacksburg man for filing a false report to police.

Police charged Matthew James Hudgins, 22, of Blacksburg with filing a false police report. He is scheduled to appear in Montgomery County General Court  (Blacksburg Division) at 8:30 a.m. on July 31 for his initial appearance.

According to Lt. Joe Davis of the Blacksburg Police Department, officers were called to the 300 block of Givens Lane for an attempted robbery at 5:25 a.m. on July 4.

Police met with the victim, who stated that a suspect approached him from behind and demanded money. The victim was unable to provide police with any details about the suspect. During their subsequent investigation, police determined that Hudgins had made the robbery story up to cover up issues he was having at his place of employment.
