Floyd County has now joined the ranks of many other localities across the New River Valley who have been eliminating county stickers from vehicles.

In it’s meeting this week, the Floyd County Board of Supervisors voted 4-0 (board chairman David Ingram was absent) to eliminate county decals.

County residents will still have to pay a county decal fee on their personal property taxes, but will not actually receive a sticker to place on the windshield. This new system will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2009. County residents will be billed for the stickers on their Dec. 5 tax bills. The new decals will run from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31 every year.

The decal fees will be $25 for cars and trucks (any weight class), $15 for motorcycles and farm use vehicles and $10 for trailers (any size).

Also under current Virginia law, residents who do not pay their personal property taxes or county decal fees on time will be reported to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. DMV will put a stop on those individuals and they will not be able to renew state license plates or driver’s licenses until the delinquent taxes are paid.

In other action, the BOS voted to add a five (5) percent “Transient Occupancy Tax. This fee, which will take effect on Jan. 1, 2009, will be levied by bed and breakfast businesses, campgrounds, motels and rental cabins. Two (2) percent of this tax will be placed into the county’s general fund and the other three (3) percent will be placed into the coffers for tourism-related expenses.

does floyd county have to pay for decals more than once for a permant state lic tag on a boat trlr or just a plain trlr if he has a perm tag more than once
