Thousands Turn Out For Sinkland Farm Tractor Pull Print E-mail
Larry Middleton

Sinkland Farm hosted the Second-Annual Henry Sink Memorial Antique Tractor-Pull on Saturday, More than 1,000 guests enjoyed the 100-plus tractors from several states that vied to win trophies for "best in class" in the weight-intensive tractor-pull. The children's age-class pedal-power pulls were fierce, yet friendly.

Milking the "kiddie-cow," pumping the ole'-timey water pump, riding miniature horse-drawn buggies, eating ice-cream, and enjoying the ambience of Sinkland Farm proved to be great fun for children and others. Bluegrass music mixed with the "chugga-chugga" of the tractors; the serene landscape was audible.  The Sinkland resident draft horse, donkey, long-horn steer, and other animals were obivilious to the sounds of excitement.

Mrs. Susan Sink said that she was "pleased that so many families came out; it's so much fun to see the little ones have a unique experience."  Susan, with her daughter, Leslie, coordinated the event.  Leslie was also the "Kettle Corn Queen," cooking tasty kettle-fired pop-corn that many enjoyed.

A rainbow of colors were prominent; USA Red, White, and Blue flags adorned the event, complimented with a myriad of Americana colors that depicted brands of antique tractors: John Deer green, Case orange, Farmall and Chalmers red, Oliver green, and Coop beige.

Fred "Freddy" Altizer was the "light-hearted" emcee; his son Josh and daughter Tara assisted with statistics and other coordination, as Mom "Phama" oversaw them.
Joe Pack, longtime Riner resident and Riner Ruritan President, said that the "conditions are just perfect; sure there's been some rain, but it's just made things better."

The day-long event closed with trophies being awarded, as well as smiles abounding.

Sinkland Tractor-Pull

I was there; what a nice group of people; from toddlers to "olders"..great fun! There's a lot of coordination over the months; Mrs. Sink did very well, along with Freddy Altizer and Joe Pack (longtime "pull" administrators). Such a nice area/multi-state event that none should miss!
