The Virginia Tech Department of Human Development in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences is studying the feasibility of developing a respite-/sick-child care facility for children and youth (from birth to age 14 years) that will meet the needs of families in the New River Valley. Caring for loved ones with temporary illnesses frequently leads to scheduling conflicts that interfere with work, home, or leisure activities and that result in caregiver fatigue. In an effort to help caregivers achieve greater balance and to offer enriching activities for their loved ones, the university is working to develop short-term care services at a central location within the New River Valley. A survey is available until Aug. 31 to help determine area needs. Take the survey online. Paper surveys are available at the following locations · New River Valley Mall’s Customer Service Desk in Christiansburg, Va.;

A 2 p.m. scavenger hunt segued the activity to the final Cruisin' Christiansburg of the season. Photos by Larry Middleton |
