Downtown Blacksburg Holds First Wednesday's Event PDF Print E-mail
Written by David Grimes

A small crowd turned out last night for the Downtown Blacksburg Wonderful First Wednesday's event for July, which is sponsored by the Downtown Merchants of Blacksburg.

With this month’s theme being “Tour de France”, event organizers were urging residents to take advantage of the beautiful summer evening by cruising into town on your bicycle.

Some of the events last night, included Jane Hellman, who is the author of the book “Summer Engagements”, being on hand to talk about her experiences her bike tour.

Keeping with the biking theme, Hokie Spokes was on hand for a free bike clinic, in which several riders dropped by to have their bikes inspected for proper safe riding.

Other activities going on around town included extended hours on the Farmer’s Market, Councilman Don Langrehr and Al Leighton speaking with citizens at the mobile Town Hall, a wine and French cheese tasting event, an open-studio dance activity at the Center of Dance and “Chicken Man” was spotted at Moe’s putting on his juggling act for the youngsters and adults.

“I really enjoyed the Farmer’s Market being opened late,” said Andrea Martin. “My family likes organic vegetables and there was a vendor here that had exactly what we wanted.”

The next Wonderful First Wednesday’s Event will take place on Wednesday, August 6.
