If you live in the City of Radford, you may want to have your yard sale before July 23, after that, there will be a new city ordinance governing these types of sales and how many you may have per year.
Currently, there are no ordinances governing these types of sales in the city, which have been held by private residents on an every weekend basis. This new ordinance came about after citizens voiced their complaints to the city about some residents who were having a yard sale every week. Some said their neighbors were going into the “yard sale business” because they were having so many. Effective July 23, the City of Radford will require permits for a yard sale, yard sales will be limited to three days and residents can only have three yard sales per year. In addition, signs advertising yard sales except for the one on the property during the sale will be prohibited. The yard sale permit must be displayed on the site during the sell. Permits can be obtained at the Radford Commissioner of Revenue’s office. There is no charge for the permit. If you are caught violating this ordinance, you can be charged with a Class 3 misdemeanor, which caries a fine of up to $500
