Christiansburg Murder Suspect Commits Suicide In Roanoke County/Salem Jail

A Christiansburg man, who was the suspect in the murder at the Salem Food Lion, committed suicide Saturday in his cell at the Roanoke County/Salem Jail.

Brian S. Sheppard, 38, of Christiansburg, was being held at the jail on first-degree murder charges after he killed 48-year-old James R. Fleshman, Jr. in the parking lot of the Wildwood Road store on April 29. Fleshman was shot at least 12 times by Sheppard.

No other details about the suicide have been released at this time.
