Poor Mountain Fire Fully Contained Print E-mail
David Grimes

The brush fire along Poor Mountain, which has burned about 250 acres since Tuesday, has now been fully contained.

“All the fire lines have been established and the fire is 100 percent contained,” said Elliston Fire Chief “Pug” Wells Saturday night.” It rained twice earlier today and its raining right now and that helped us a lot.”

Two bulldozers, along with about 50 firefighters from various departments, including the Virginia Department of Forestry completed the fire lines Saturday.

“This fire should burn itself out by Monday or Tuesday,” said Wells. “When its all said and done, about 890 acres will have burned.”

The fire started last Tuesday evening following a thunderstorm.

There have been no reported injuries and no homes or structures where threatened.
