Steven Dale Branscome, the man who shot a Virginia State Trooper in late March and then led law enforcement officials on a nationwide manhunt, was indicted on two new charges by a Mercer County (WVA) Grand Jury.
According to the Mercer County Circuit Court Clerk’s office late Friday afternoon, Branscome, 32, of Barren Springs, Va., was indicted on six charges, which included malicious assault, attempted murder, wanton endangerment, burglary, petit larceny and grand larceny. The attempted murder charge and grand larceny are new charges added against Branscome. Branscome is to have allegedly shot Virginia State Trooper Richard Hughes in the neck just across the Virginia/West Virginia line from Giles County on March 28. Branscome then led authorities on a manhunt across areas of West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. U.S. Marshals at a hotel near Texarkana, Texas finally took him into custody on April 6. Branscome also faces numerous charges in several Virginia and North Carolina jurisdictions
