Downtown Christiansburg is the place you will want to be today, as the town will be celebrating its “Grand Re-opening”, along with the second installment of Cruisin’ Christiansburg.

The daylong event will start bright and early with a 5K Race and Fun Run. The race will start and finish in front of the antique stores located in the traffic circle. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the race starts at 9 a.m.  Go to http://www.starcitystriders.com/forms/cruisinchristiansburg08.pdf for more information.

We are expecting 100 runners,” said Christiansburg Town Council member Steve Huppert, who is one of the event coordinators, and also plans to run in the 5k race.

Starting at 11 a.m. and continuing thru 8 p.m. there will be plenty of bands playing all day, as well as lots of children activities, starting at 3 p.m., including some large play toys on Hancock Street.

The downtown streets, which include Main Street from Franklin Street to the Dollar General Supermarket parking lot, along with the side streets connecting to Main Street will be closing at noon and will be closed till 9 p.m.

The Cruise In, with more than 350 cars expected, will starting lining Main Street from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The long anticipated Downtown Christiansburg “Grand Re-opening” event will take place at 2 p.m. at the Town Square. Mayor Richard Ballengee will speak and the Christiansburg Police Department Color Guard will also be on hand to present the Colors.

“We have been spent months working on this,” said Huppert. “This is going to be a really big event for Downtown Christiansburg.”
