Could the price of gas be coming down, as we start our summer vacations? Maybe, as prices dropped on an average of six cents across the New River Valley Thursday. As many of us went to bed Wednesday night, the average price of regular gas was $3.85. Our dreams of wanting lower gas prices appeared to have come true, as the average price of regular gas dropped six cents, to $3.79 on Thursday. Could this be a trend to come or is just something to get our hopes up? No one really knows, as EverythingNRV.com talked to several station managers in the area. “I don’t know what to expect,” said Robbie with Wilco/Hess. “We never know from one day to the other or even from one hour to the other what the prices will do.” While the majority of stations we saw had dropped their prices, there were still others whose prices remained the same. An employee at Bucko’s in Radford, who was still selling gas at $3.87 a gallon Thursday afternoon, said they have not been told to change their prices yet. “Yes, I know the station next to us has dropped prices, but we can’t do anything until our district managers tells us too.” The one thing that every manager and employee told us on Thursday was, “It could go down again, but more than likely, it will rise even more before its all said and done.” Also, some consumers we talked to on Thursday were pleased with the drop. “I really didn’t need gas, but when I stopped here to get a drink, I saw the prices had dropped, so I went ahead and filled up to take advantage of it, “said Adam Barton of Fairlawn.

Your report is accurate and optimistic. Today's 06/06/08 (20/20 hindsight!) record high and historical one-day rise, point to the fact that gasoline WILL be headed to the $5.00 level soon; lesser-refined heating oil, etc., may see even more of a percentage increase, just in time for Winter. $7.00 per gallon for gas...that's the "target" of many "day-traders"...let alone, the Middle-East/Israel threats against Iran, jobs reports of over 50k lost jobs, and fall of the US Dollar (result of negative jobs report). Regarding at least one African refinery workers' strike: Pay them, forget the pennies. Of course, the old "we must become less dependent" phrase is still around. The situation is more serious than most think. Yet, passenger rail, solar incentives (when has anyone been informed of options, incentives?) I want to install a heat-pump, but one must search for options/benefits/tax incentives; passiveness by many elected officials..I could go on, but it's not my opinion; there's too much real data/reports that support much higher fuel prices. It's NOT always just the gamblers of futures contracts that are running prices up. It's the "magic 7 (dollars)" It's as "good as here." "Let them eat cake"...if they can walk to it. The national media needs to report more on every-day problems; forget Bamaitis and McCainitis; what a smoke screen; as US/Irag problems proliferate. It's a big mess, and it's our elected officials' responsibility to clean it up.
