My Son Is Coming Soon PDF Print E-mail
Written by Rev. Steve Ridenour

What I am about to write will be received and understood by many, and yet many more will reject it.  What happened to me is still hard for me to understand.  I often ask God “Why me, Lord?”  It is something that I knew I would eventually write about, and at the time it happened, I knew that it was something that would be told at a later date.

I believe that this message from God was given to me to be shared and to be shared boldly, but only when God was ready for me to share it.  For two years I have prayed, and I have waited for God’s direction on this message.  Now, for whatever reason He has, God has told me to share it.

As many of you may know I am a consultant engineer in the oil and gas industry in South Texas.  Due to the nature of my work I spend many days away from home living on drilling locations far removed from cities and towns.  The only opportunity that I have for church is those very quiet moments alone with God.

In February 2001, I was on a well we were drilling about 20 miles outside of Laredo, Texas.  I remember it was a very clear and crisp morning so I decided to take a walk.  I was walking down the long caliche (soft limestone rock) road that eventually led back to the highway. As I walked I was praying and speaking to God about how He had continued to bless me, and my family.  I was thanking God for delivering me from the grasp of addiction to cocaine so many years ago.  I was thanking God for blessing my engineering business and the ministry that He has charged me with.  It was an awesome time alone in quietness with my Father.

I had walked about a mile and then I turned around to begin my walk back to the drilling rig.  I began singing, and I continued worshipping our Lord.  I walked slowly, singing Hallelujah over and over again.  As I walked the most awesome thing happened to me that I have ever experienced.  As I walked God lifted me up.  Suddenly every thing around me was gone.  The only thing that I was aware of was a voice.  It wasn't a loud voice.  It was a voice that very gently said, “My son is coming soon.”  God continued to tell me that now the entire world has heard the name of His Son, Jesus Christ.  He explained very simply that because of today’s technology with cell phones, satellite television and radio, computers, the internet, and all the other various forms of media, that there is not a corner left in this world that has not heard the Gospel message of His Son (See Matthew 24:14).

After the brief explanation God said once again “My Son is coming soon.”  That was it. Suddenly I am aware of my surroundings, and I am still walking down the road heading back to the rig, and I am crying.

Now I can't explain exactly what happened to me that morning two years ago.  I have shared this with two pastor friends of mine in search of an explanation to what happened. Both have told me that I was “caught up” in the Spirit of the Lord and that I was given a prophetic message.  I do agree that I was given a prophetic message, and I know that it is a message for the times.  What I don't understand is why God chose me to receive this message, but what I do understand that He wants me to boldly preach this message beginning today.

In the Book of Matthew, Chapter 24, Jesus talks with His disciples about the future on the Mount of Olives.  1 As Jesus was leaving the Temple grounds, his disciples pointed out to him the various Temple buildings. 2 But he told them, “Do you see all these buildings? I assure you, they will be so completely demolished that not one stone will be left on top of another!” 3 Later, Jesus sat on the slopes of the Mount of Olives. His disciples came to him privately and asked, “When will all this take place? And will there be any sign ahead of time to signal your return and the end of the world?” 4 Jesus told them, “Don't let anyone mislead you. 5 For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will lead many astray. 6 And wars will break out near and far, but don't panic. Yes, these things must come, but the end won't follow immediately. 7 The nations and kingdoms will proclaim war against each other, and there will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. 8 But all this will be only the beginning of the horrors to come. 9 “Then you will be arrested, persecuted, and killed. You will be hated all over the world because of your allegiance to me. 10 And many will turn away from me and betray and hate each other. 11 And many false prophets will appear and will lead many people astray. 12 Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold. 13 But those who endure to the end will be saved. 14 And the Good News about the Kingdom will be preached throughout the whole world, so that all nations will hear it; and then, finally, the end will come.

In verse 14 Jesus said that before he returns, the Good News about the Kingdom (the message of salvation) would be preached throughout the world.  That scripture has been fulfilled.

33 Just so, when you see the events '’I've described beginning to happen, you can know his return is very near, right at the door. 34 I assure you, this generation will not pass from the scene before all these things take place. 35 Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will remain forever.  36 “However, no one knows the day or the hour when these things will happen, not even the angels in heaven or the Son himself.  Only the Father knows.  37 “When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah’s day. 38 In those days before the Flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his boat. 39 People didn't realize what was going to happen until the Flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes.

In Matthew 3:2, John the Baptist preached in the wilderness of Judea to “Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”  Then in Matthew 4:17 Jesus began to preach, “Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom of Heaven is near.” The Kingdom of Heaven began when God himself entered human history as a man. Today Jesus Christ reigns in the hearts of believers, but the Kingdom of Heaven will not be fully realized until all evil in the world is judged and removed. Christ came to earth first as a suffering servant; he will come again as king and judge to rule victoriously over all the earth.

So hear the message children of the Almighty Lord.  Listen when God says, “My Son is coming soon.”  The time is drawing near to when Christ the King will return.  I believe without any doubt that Jesus Christ is returning soon.  I believe it because God told me so.  I am telling you because God told me to.  Now it is up to you to either believe what God has said, or you can shake your head in disbelief and ignore God’s warning.  The choice is yours.

Now if you are reading this article and you haven't yet asked Jesus Christ into your life, please don't hesitate any longer, today can be the day of your salvation.  Pray this prayer and come into the family of God.

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus Christ, the Name above every name. I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior and confess unto You that I am a sinner.  I ask You to forgive my sins and to come into my heart.  In Your forgiveness I am washed clean of my sins, by the shed blood of Jesus, I have become a new creation in Christ and an eternal member of the FAMILY OF GOD. I thank you for my new birth. In the wonderful Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
