| Montgomery County BOS Hears Update On Proposed AEP Project |

An update on the proposed American Electric Power – Falling Branch-Merrimac 138 kv. Project was given during Tuesday night’s Montgomery County Board of Supervisor’s meeting. A public meeting will be held June 5 at the Christiansburg High School starting at 5 p.m. on the preliminary proposed corridors for the $15 million infrastructure upgrade. The public comment period will end on July 18, 2008. After that, AEP will file an application with the State Corporation Commission. Burdette to rezone approximately 1.992 acres of 6.50 acre tract(s) from Agriculture (A-1) to General Business (GB) for a medical office facility located at 929 Hightop Road. Two people spoke out against the request. The BOS also approved on a 6-0 vote (John Muffo absent) to add Brocton Street extension (Route 123) to the state secondary highway system. Also, Mary Biggs was reappointed to the Board of Directors of Virginia’s First Regional Industrial Facility Authority. Bob Isner was reappointed as an alternate for Biggs and Carol Edmonds was appointed an alternate for county administrator Clay Goodman. In addition, Elaine Cieluch and Debbie Dove were reappointed to the Office on Youth Advisory Board. No citizens spoke out during public address. The BOS also approved the H.S. Tejas request for use of private streets and the pilot inmate work crew program operated by the sheriff’s office. There was also a closed meeting in which discussion of the acquisition of real property: Montgomery County Government Center; discussion with legal council concerning the Norfolk Southern Intermodal Facility and a boundary adjustment with the Town of Blacksburg. There were no action or votes taken during the closed session. The next scheduled meeting of the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors is slated for Monday, June 9. A closed session will be held at 6 p.m., followed by the open session at 7:15 p.m.
