A Giles County man is facing up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty Thursday in U.S. Federal District Court in Roanoke to two charges related to making counterfeit money.
Jonathan Neal Williams, 23, of Pembroke pled guilty to one count of uttering counterfeit obligations and one count of counterfeiting obligations. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 6 at 9:30 a.m.. Following an investigation by the United States Secret Service, Williams was charged on Feb. 7, 2008 in a five-count indictment with four counts of uttering counterfeit obligations and one count of counterfeiting obligations. “The United States Attorney’s Office is committed to maintaining the integrity of our monetary system,” Acting United States Attorney Julia C. Dudley said in a press release. “Investigations like this one are paramount in ensuring that the public does not lose faith in the authenticity of government obligations.” The United States Secret Service for the Western District of Virginia conducted the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Charlene Day is prosecuting the case.
