Usually people try to avoid a trip to the sheriff’s office. However, that was not the case Saturday, as a steady flow of cars poured into the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office parking lot for a car wash to benefit the Eric Sutphin Children of Law Enforcement Memorial Scholarship.
Saturday’s event raised $2,741, which will be applied to the scholarship fund. According to Michelle Smith, with the sheriff’s office, the Community Foundation will administer the scholarship. At this point, the amount of the scholarship has yet to be determined. The Foundation will determine the amount and oversee the distribution of the funds. They hope to give the first scholarship this fall. Anyone interested in applying for the scholarship should contact the Community Foundation at (540) 381-8999.
