Blacksburg Man Arrested For Wielding Sword At NRV Medical Center This Morning

A 57-year-old Blacksburg man is in custody after he entered the Carilion New River Valley Medical Center this morning wielding a sword.

Tony Burnett was charged with assault and disorderly conduct. He is currently undergoing an evaluation after being taken in on an ECO (Emergency Custody Order) for possible mental problems.

Its alleged that Burnett, who was screaming and waving the sword, tried to enter a secure area at the hospital, but the building’s security system locked down the corridor, isolating him.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident.
