Updated: Montgomery County School Superintendent Withdraws Her Name For Memphis Job PDF Print E-mail
Written by David Grimes

Montgomery County School Superintendent Tiffany Anderson will be staying put, at least for now, after withdrawing her name Thursday from the search for a new superintendent in Memphis, Tenn.

Anderson, who was one of the five finalists for the Memphis position, was interviewed Monday afternoon. However, on Thursday she told the search committee she was no longer interested.

According to the Memphis City School’s website, “Dr. Tiffany Anderson has withdrawn her name from the candidate list for MCS Superintendent.” Further questions were referred to Ray and Associates, the company handing the search.

In a phone interview with Al Johnson of Ray and Associates Friday afternoon, he stated that the reason Ms. Anderson gave to them was, “her concern about the number of board members up for re-election.”

Ms. Anderson made the following comments by an e-mail to EverythingNRV.com late Friday evening. "I withdrew my name as a finalist for another superintendent position in a city closer to family and friends that my husband was exploring."

When asked is she was being considered in any other school districts, she replied, I do not have any active applications in any district at this time."

Anderson went on to say in the email, " While my husband is interested in a metropolitan area, closer to family if possible, we also feel it’s very important for our entire family to feel any new opportunity is a match for all of us. We enjoy our community here and in exploring another opportunity further, my family did not feel the opportunity available was a match for all of us at this time. As I’ve shared, we have not made any decisions to leave our community. My husband is only exploring and I am supporting my family fully. The continued support from my school board and understanding of my full school community has been tremendous and I do appreciate that very much as we do enjoy many things about our community."

Anderson’s contract here in Montgomery County is good through 2010. There is a clause in the contract, which says she could resign at any time she and the board find mutually agreeable.
