Fire Does Minor Damage To Old Pulaski Furniture Building PDF Print E-mail
Written by David Grimes

A fire at the old Pulaski Furniture plant Thursday night did minor damage to the boiler room building.

The Pulaski Fire Department responded to the building at around 9 p.m. and when they arrived, they observed flames coming from the roof and asked for additional help from Dublin and Newbern.

The fire department was afraid to put anyone on the roof due to the fact that workers have been cutting medal inside the building and they didn’t know if the building was structurally safe.

Two ladder trucks, one from Pulaski and one Dublin, responded to allow firefighters to get high enough to take a look at the roof.

The fire, which is believed to have started by a sparks smoldering from a worker’s torch earlier in the evening, did about $1,000 in damages.

More than 30 firefighters from Pulaski, Dublin and Newbern Fire Departments, along with five pieces of equipment responded to the call.

There was no reports of injuries.

Today's Birthday
  • Leni Riefenstahl
Riefenstahl was a German filmmaker whose most famous works are documentary propaganda films for the German Nazi Party. Her Triumph of the Will, a documentary of a huge Nazi rally glorifying Hitler, is widely regarded as one of the most effective pieces of propaganda ever produced. After the war, Riefenstahl was classified as a Nazi sympathizer and blacklisted. Later, she became interested in underwater photography and the Nuba tribe in the Sudan. What did she do on her 100th birthday?
