Two Area Schools Earn State Award PDF Print E-mail

Two New River Valley elementary schools, one in Floyd County and the other in Montgomery County, have received the Title I Distinguished School Award, which is presented by the Virginia Department of Education.

 

Check Elementary School in Floyd County and Margaret Beeks Elementary School in Montgomery County were notified of the award. The award is given to schools for making Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the past two consecutive years, without using the safe harbor provision; for being fully accredited for the past two consecutive years; for exceeding the annual measurable objectives in English and mathematics for the past two consecutive years; and for having a mean score at the 60th percentile in English and mathematics on the Standards of Learning assessments.

The continued excellent performance of our students is a tribute to the outstanding staff, “ said Dr. Tiffany Anderson, Montgomery County School Superintendent  “The former principal, Dr. Graham, and the current principal, Mr. Medford have provided outstanding leadership to the Margaret Beeks students, staff and community.”
