Women's Resource Center To Hold Benefit Concert Tonight PDF Print E-mail
Written by EverythingNRV

To mark 30 years of providing help and shelter to people who have experienced domestic or sexual violence in the New River Valley, The Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley will host a Benefit Concert tonight. The “Giving Shelter, Finding Peace” concert will feature the band, Saffire: The Uppity Blues Women (http://www.uppityblueswomen.com/), and will entertain guests with an evening of peace, music and fun.

The Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley was the first domestic violence program in the Commonwealth of Virginia when it started in the late 1970’s. The Center now provides a full array of programs and services for adults and children who have experienced domestic and sexual violence including an emergency shelter, a transitional housing program, emergency advocates who provide support to people who have been assaulted and have gone to the hospital, a live, 24-hour-a-day hotline, crisis and long-term counseling, legal advocacy, and prevention and educational programming in the community. “We could not provide all the services we do without the funding support of our community,” said Pat Brown, Executive Director.

The concert will be at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center. Doors open at 7:30. Tickets are $35 per person. The admission price includes a light fare during intermission and soft drinks. Beer and wine also will be available for purchase, so dust off your casual concert jeans, and join us for a great evening of “Giving Shelter, Finding Peace.” All proceeds benefit the Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the Women’s Resource Center or at the door. For more information call (540) 639-9592.
