Thompson Tire Named Main Street Radford's Buiness Of The Month PDF Print E-mail
Written by Becky Haupt

Thompson Tire, Main Street Radford’s Business of the Month for April, will be celebrating forty years of service to the New River Valley this summer.  Their location at 102 West Main has been a Radford staple for 34 years.

The company, founded by Joe and Margot Thompson, started as a Goodyear dealership and since then they have gone from a one-store location to five retail locations, plus a commercial warehouse for tire distribution.  Thompson Tire is now a retail tire and automobile service business that offers: alignments, brakes, air conditioning, heating and cooling systems, suspension, state inspections, and all minor repairs.

Thompson Tire provides retail tires for passenger, light trucks, SUVs, farm and commercial trucks. Thompson Tire is an authorized Goodyear Dealer, selling and servicing all Goodyear products as well as an authorized MAST M.S. dealer, an authorized Michelin dealer of UniRoyal and BFGoodrich tires and part of Gemini Autoservice with the ability to service all brands of vehicles.

Thompson Tire is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan) company and they are a member of the Better Business Bureau.  All of their technicians are ASE certified to provide a higher quality of care to your vehicle.  With thirty-four years of an experienced manager in Mel Tolbert, Thompson Tire has established a good working relationship with local customers.

Established by Main Street Radford in August 2004 as a way to recognize Main Street business owners for their accomplishments and to also promote economic development in the City, Main Street Radford uses this program as a way of honoring our local businesses. The Main Street Radford board of directors uses the following criteria to nominate and vote on a business of a month.

In addition to being a current member of Main Street Radford, the following criteria are used to determine eligible Business of the Month Candidates:
· Radford business that has recently opened or are under new ownership or management
· Radford business member that have moved to a new or second location
· Radford business member that have completed recent property renovation
· Radford business member that offer new or expanded services/products
· Radford business member that is celebrating anniversary or milestones
· Business members that have demonstrated significant growth or outstanding customer service

Becky Haupt, Main Street Radford’s Director, believes that “the business of the month” program serves as another form of advertising for our Main Street merchants.

We wouldn’t have such a unique and vibrant downtown if not for them.”  Haupt strongly encourages Radford citizens to come out and support all Radford businesses. For more information about the “Business of the Month” program, contact the MSR office at 731-3656.
