Police Investigating Three Suspicious Fires At RU PDF Print E-mail
Written by David Grimes

The Virginia State Police, along with the Radford University Police Department, are currently investigating three attempted fires, which have occurred in campus residence halls during the past week.

According to John Hatchtel, vice president for university relations, combustible items were placed inside ovens and microwaves in three residence hall kitchens.

Two of the fires were discovered before they ignited and there was a fire in one of the ovens, causing minor damages. There have been no reports of anyone being injured in any of the incidents.

One of the incidents was reported to have occurred at 4:17 a.m. on April 6 in Norwood Hall, while another incident took place the following day, April 7, at 12:56 p.m. in Floyd Hall.

RU Police have increased patrols around the residence halls and residence hall staff has also been placed on increased alert.

Anyone having any information on these incidents are asked to contact the Radford University Police at 831-5500.
